    Industry Partnerships — Experiential Learning Procedures

    Choose the right partner-support path, prepare the project, start the verified agreement, and plan the course with the appropriate college and university owners.

    Choose the Right Path

    Choose the route based on whether the partner is making a Virginia Tech Foundation gift or supporting a sponsored studio through an Experiential Learning Program agreement. Do not promise terms before the owning offices review the work.

    Virginia Tech Foundation gift

    Start with Julia Allen and AAD Advancement for the college’s gift process.

    Before You Commit

    Notify your School Director and Ariana Wyatt before committing to a sponsored studio or partner deliverables.

    Define the project scope, timeline, and deliverables with the partner.

    Identify NDA needs and build a materials and travel budget.

    Start the Agreement

    Summit Agreements supports research-related agreements managed by the Office of Sponsored Programs. The verified agreement type for this route is Membership Agreement – Experiential Learning Program (ELP).

    Plan the Course and Project

    Plan the academic experience and partner engagement together so the scope, course documentation, schedule, and budget support the project.

    Document out-of-class activities, student expectations, and required waivers or NDAs in the course syllabus.

    Set the project duration based on the scope rather than assuming a standard timeline.

    Plan the materials and travel budget for students and faculty.

    Engage the partner early through lectures, demonstrations, mentoring, interim and final critiques, field experiences, presentations, and career support such as portfolio reviews or job placement.
