Here you wil learn where and how to change or setup your VT Passwords. VT Passwords have a certain criteria that is required for many of them. For more information regarding these rules please visit this page: VT Password Rules and Tips
This will show you how to Change or Recover your PID Password.
Change PID Passphrase
- Go to the VT Account Manager page.
- Click the My Accounts link.
- If prompted, type your credentials.
- In the Username text box, type your VT Username (PID), which is the first part of your @vt.edu email address.
(If you do not know your VT Username, follow the instructions at Forgot VT Username.) - In the Password text box, type your VT Username passphrase.
(If you forgot your passphrase, follow the instructions at Reset VT Username (PID) Passphrase.) - Click the Login button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to either:
- Enroll in 2-factor authentication, or
- If you have previously enrolled in 2-factor authentication, complete authentication with your second factor.

- In the Username text box, type your VT Username (PID), which is the first part of your @vt.edu email address.
- To the right of your name, click the Change passphrase link.
- In the Current passphrase text box, type your current VT Username (PID) passphrase.
- Click the Proceed button.
- After carefully reading the agreement, click the I will comply button.
- In the Passphrase text box, type a new passphrase.
For requirements and tips on creating a passphrase, see the Changes to Password Requirements page. - In the Passphrase again text box, re-type the new passphrase.
- Click button corresponding to your choice:
- Clicking the Split Passphrases button will not change or affect your Hokies password in any way.
- Clicking the Set one passphrases button will change your Hokies password to be the same as the VT Username password that you typed above.
Reset PID Passphrase
- Go to the http://onecampus.vt.edu Web page.
- Near the top-right corner of the page, click the Sign In link.
- From the drop-down that appears, click the Sign In button.
- You will see the Login screen prompting for username and password. Under the Passphrase text box, in the sentence “I forgot my username or password.” click the I forgot link.
- Select the I forgot my password radio button.
- In the User name: text box, type your VT Username (PID) which is the first part of your @vt.edu email address.
(If you do not know your VT Username, follow the instructions at Forgot VT Username.) - Click the Reset Passphrase button.
- In the Virginia Tech ID text box, type your numeric, 9-digit ID number.
“If you do not know your VT ID#, on the Account Recovery Page, click the “I don’t know my Virginia Tech ID
number link.” - Click the Continue button. The account recovery methods that you previously set up will appear.
- To the right of the method you want to use (Voice, SMS, Google Account, Yahoo Account, etc.), click the button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to verify your account.
- When prompted, in the New passphrase text box, type a new passphrase.

- Click the Reset Passphrase button.

Change Hokies ID Password
- You must know your VT Username passphrase to complete this set of instructions.
(If you do not know your VT Username passphrase, instead of these instructions, follow the instructions at Reset Hokies Password via ADadmin.) - Important: Close Outlook, Mail for Mac, and all other desktop email clients connected to Exchange.
- Go to the VT Account Manager page.
- Click the My Accounts link.
- If prompted, type your credentials.
- In the Username text box, type your VT Username, which is the first part of your @vt.edu email address.
(If you do not know your VT Username, follow the instructions at Forgot VT Username.) - In the Password text box, type your VT Username passphrase.
(If you forgot your passphrase, follow the instructions at Reset Hokies Password via ADadmin.) - Click the Login button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to either:
- Enroll in 2-factor authentication, or
- If you have previously enrolled in 2-factor authentication, complete authentication with your second factor.

- In the Username text box, type your VT Username, which is the first part of your @vt.edu email address.
- To the right of your name, click the Advanced link.
- Click the Create passphrase for Hokies services only button.
- In the New Password: text box, type a new passphrase.
(For requirements and tips on creating a passphrase, see the Changes to Password Requirements page.) - In the Confirm Password: text box, re-type the new passphrase.
- Click the Reset Password button.
- Immediately update all desktop email clients and all mobile devices that connect to Exchange with your new password. This is to prevent your account from getting locked. Be sure to update your email clients one at a time, because starting all of them at once may cause you to be locked out.
Change Hokies ID PAssword via ADadmin
- Important: Close Outlook, Mail for Mac, and all other desktop email clients connected to Exchange.
- In Firefox or Internet Explorer, go to the ADadmin Web site.
- If prompted, log on with your Hokies ID (which is the same as your VT Username) and Hokies ID (Exchange) password.
(If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Reset Hokies ID Password.) - If you have previously enrolled in 2-factor authentication, follow the on-screen instructions to complete authentication with your second factor.
(For more information and instructions on 2-factor, see the University 2-Factor Authentication Web site.) - In the left menu, click the Persons link.
- Under Persons, click the Change Password link.
- In the Current Password: text box, type your current Hokies ID password.
- In the New password: text box, type a new password.
- In the Confirm password: text box, re-type the new password.
- Click the Change Password button.
- Immediately update all desktop email clients and all mobile devices that connect to Exchange with your new password. This is to prevent your account from getting locked. Be sure to update your email clients one at a time, because starting all of them at once may cause you to be locked out.
Reset Hokies ID PAssword via ADadmin
- Close Outlook, Mail for Mac, and all other desktop email clients.
- Contact 4Help by calling (540) 231-HELP (4357), and request to have your forgotten Hokies password reset. A customer support agent will assign you a temporary password.
- Use the temporary password you were given to log on to ADadmin in Firefox or Internet Explorer.
- Change the temporary password to a password of your choice.
- Update the password in each desktop email client and mobile device that connects to the Exchange server. Update one client or mobile device at a time; if you start multiple clients at once, you may be locked out of your account.

View, Change, or Reset Network Password
A network password is used by Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and students to connect to the wireless (wifi) network eduroam and the Remote Access – VPN service.
- Go to the VT Account Manager page.
- Click the My Accounts link.
- Type your credentials.
- In the Username text box, type your VT Username (PID), which is the first part of your @vt.edu email address.
(If you do not know your VT Username, follow the instructions at Forgot VT Username.) - In the Password text box, type your VT Username passphrase.
(If you forgot your passphrase, follow the instructions at Reset VT Username (PID) Passphrase.) - Click the Login button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to either:
- Enroll in 2-factor authentication, or
- If you have previously enrolled in 2-factor authentication, complete authentication with your second factor.

- In the Username text box, type your VT Username (PID), which is the first part of your @vt.edu email address.
- In the Network Access (Eduroam WiFi, VPN Remote Access) section, click the Show Network Password button.
- If prompted about “Your password cannot be displayed” click the button corresponding to your choice:
- To proceed, click the Generate new password button.
Important: Your current network password will stop working. You will be given a new, automatically generated network password. The new, automatically generated password is the only network password that will work.
- To not keep your current network password without making changes, click the Done button.
Your network password will not be changed from what it is now and your current network password will continue to work.
- To proceed, click the Generate new password button.
- Under your email address will be displayed your new or current network password.
- If you want to have a new, different password automatically generated, click the Generate new password button.
- Wait 30 minutes for the password to sync.
- Change the password on any devices that connect to Virginia Tech wireless or the remote access – virtual private network (VPN) to your new network password. Otherwise, those devices will not be able to connect.
This will show you how to change or reset your Banner Password.
Change Oracle Banner or Warehouse ID Password
- Go to the Password Change Application Web page.
- Click the link corresponding to the type of Oracle / Banner password you want to change.
- In the Oracle Id: text box, type your VT Username (PID), which is the first part of your @vt.edu email address.
(If you do not know your VT Username, follow the instructions at Forgot VT Username.) - In the Current Password or Vasco code: text box, type your current Banner password.
(If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Forgot Banner or Warehouse ID Password.) - In the New Password: text box, type a new Banner password.
(Do not use the “@” symbol in your password.) - In the Verify New Password: text box, re-type the new password.
- Click the Change Password button.
When you change your password in the Banner instance, the change will synchronize with the vatech, vtfbanner, and warehouse instances as well. However, all other instances will not change.
Reset Oracle Banner or Warehouse ID Password
- Contact 4Help by calling (540) 231-HELP (4357), and request to have your Banner password reset. A customer support agent will assign you a temporary Banner password.
- Go to the Password Change Application Web page.
- Click the link corresponding to the type of Oracle / Banner password you want to change.
- In the Oracle Id: text box, type your VT Username (PID), which is the first part of your @vt.edu email address.
(If you do not know your VT Username, follow the instructions at Forgot VT Username.) - In the Current Password or Vasco code: text box, type the temporary Banner password that 4Help gave you.
- In the New Password: text box, type a new Banner password.
(Do not use the “@” symbol in your password.) - In the Verify New Password: text box, re-type the new password.
- Click the Change Password button.
When you change your password in the Banner instance, the change will synchronize with the vatech, vtfbanner, and warehouse instances as well. However, all other instances will not change.
Forgot Virginia Tech Avaya Voicemail Password
If you are affiliated with Virginia Tech and do not know your Virginia Tech voice mail password and need to reset it, contact 4Help at (540) 231 – 4357, and ask to have your voicemail password reset.
Forgot Advanced Research Computing Password
Advanced Research Computing systems use Virginia Tech’s PID and PID password (for Virginia Tech users). (If you do not know your PID, see the Forgot PID KB article. If you have forgotten your PID password, follow the instructions at Forgot PID Password.)
Problems with account access should be submitted using ARC’s service catalog item.
Change Unified Communications Password / Forgot Unified Communications Password
- Go to the My VT Web page.
- Click the Log on with CAS link.
- If prompted, type your PID and PID password..
- In the Username text box, type your PID, which is the first part of your @vt.edu email address. (If you do not know your PID, follow the instructions at Forgot PID.)
- In the Password text box, type your PID password. (If you forgot your password, follow the instructions at Forgot PID Password.)
- Click the Login button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to either:
- Enroll in 2-factor authentication (2FA), or
- If you have previously enrolled in 2-factor authentication, complete authentication with your second factor. (For more information and instructions on 2-factor, see the University 2-Factor Authentication Web site.)
- Near the top of the window, to the right of Home, click the Personal Info tab link.
- Under Contact Info, click the Manage your Accounts link.
- To the right of the Unified Communications Password heading, to the right of Extension, click the Change password link.
- In the Password: text box, type a new password by following the Password Requirements on the right of the page. (Think carefully when choosing any special characters for the new password. This password and any special characters it contains must be entered using the keypad on your deskphone, and it will also be entered when using softphone clients. This password is used for logging on to your deskphone or softphone, and it is not used for voicemail.)
- In the New password again text box, re-type the new password.
- Click the Change Password button.
